We are digging deep here--way back in June 2008 (yes, summer of LAST year!) we set out for a far east adventure with little Ryan in tow. We had a wonderful time. First stop was Singapore where we visited friends, wandered in crowded markets, ate excellent food and took in the hustle and bustle of the city. Ryan had to recoup after catching a little virus on the way out there...he had to have breakfast in bed and sleep a couple days away as we transitioned into the intense heat and humidity--but then he was ready for the pool, beach, and city.
For week 2 we headed over to Vietnam. What an amazing and beautiful county! The vistas were gorgeous and serene, the people were lovely, the food was fantastic (gotta love the french influences here!), and Ryan was a hit everywhere we went. We were literally holding people back from him--they would come out of no where and be kissing his cheeks and touching his face. He, of course, loved the attention--and I, the protective mother was "purelling" his cheeks and hands constantly.
Some highlights: in Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) we saw the thriving commercial center and home of many reminders of past conflicts; in Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam, we enjoyed wandering the crowded streets, attending a water puppet show, strolling along the lake; in Halong Bay (UN World Heritage Site) we took a boat trip for a few days through the breath-taking limestone rock formations and isles rising out of the ocean and witnessed life on the water first hand; in Hoi An we enjoyed the extremly charming old town, spectacular restaurants, and brushes with the beauties of the Miss Universe pagent (going on at the same time as our visit)--and we had fun getting some new duds tailor-made there (apparently its what you do in Vietnam!).
We had a spectacular time and Ryan was a great little traveler. We can't wait for our next adventure!
